REDLANDS: Astronomers club hosts ‘Moon Party’ – Press

Members of the San Bernardino Valley Amateur Astronomers will have telescopes and astronomy know-how on hand for families participating in a Moon Party from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday.

The event, free and open the public, will be at the San Bernardino County Museum, 2024 Orange Tree Lane, Redlands.

“We will be observing the first-quarter moon,” said Chris Clarke, program coordinator for the astronomy group. “It should be a real crowd-pleaser, since we’ll be able to see an incredible amount of surface detail, even at low powers. We might also catch some ‘double stars,’ like Albireo, whose two stars are sapphire blue and bright yellow.”

Club members will have telescopes ranging from refractors to reflectors to compound optics that visitor can use to view the quarter moon and other night sky objects.
