iJohn Carter/i Featurette Reveals br /New, Lighthearted Footage

While the sneak peek at the Super Bowl spot for John Carter didn’t reveal any new footage from the Disney action film, a new minute-long featurette does — all while playing up a more lighthearted side of the adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic novels.

John Carter is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

Opening March 9, John Carter also stars Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Daryl Sabara, Polly Walker, Bryan Cranston and Thomas Hayden Church.

Colin Farrell Won’t Be Getting His A– to Mars in ‘Total Recall’ Remake

Tue Jan 17, 2012 6:09pm EST

The recently released synopsis for Columbia Pictures’ “Total Recall” remake almost identically describes the original film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger (see below).

However, one crucial word is missing: “Mars.”

Nary a scene in the Colin Farrell-starring movie will take place on the red planet, TheWrap has confirmed. Instead, all the events will transpire on Earth.

That means the remake won’t be reviving one of the most memorable quotes from the original: “Get your ass to Mars.”

The remake is directed by Len Wiseman (“Live Free or Die Hard”) from a script by Kurt Wimmer (“Salt”). Like the original, it is based on the Philip K. Dick short story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale,” which was first published in 1966.

Neal H. Moritz is producing the remake through his company Original Films; Toby Jaffe will oversee the project.

‘John Carter’ International Trailer Reveals Interstellar Transportation

‘John Carter’ International Trailer Reveals Interstellar Transportation

Disney’s first trailer for John Carter revealed very little about the story, and the following trailer for the movie only added a few more details. Both of them featured our titular civil war hero mysteriously transported to the planet Mars. How John Carter got there is unknown. But the latest international trailer for Andrew Stanton’s movie seems to explain how John Carter got to the red planet.

The clips that follow John Carter’s transportation are also worth a look, although it does feature a lot of the same footage we’ve already seen from the upcoming movie. John Carter marks the first time that Andrew Stanton has directed a live-action film.

John Carter stars Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Daryl Sabara, Polly Walker, Bryan Cranston, Thomas Hayden Church, and Willem Dafoe. Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, Wall-E) directs the film which opens on March 9th.

2 TV Spots and New Images from JOHN CARTER Starring Taylor Kitsch

Two new TV spots and a batch of new images have been released for director Andrew Stanton’s (Wall-E) John Carter. Based on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ novel John Carter of Mars, the film tells the story of a former Confederate soldier who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he finds himself in the middle of an epic war between the planet’s inhabitants. The more I see of John Carter the better I feel about it, and these TV spots are no exception. They bring the epic scope of the project into focus, and promise a multitude of creatures, battles, and pretty lights! I’m a huge fan of Stanton’s work at Pixar and I’m hoping he delivers here.
