EXCLUSIVE: Idris Elba has lined up his followup TV project to the BBC limited series Luther, which earned him a Golden Globe and an Emmy nomination. Elba has teamed with producer Vivek J. Tiwary (The Fifth Beatle) and writer Warren Ellis (Red) for adventure/thriller miniseries Ascension, which revolves around the history and future of astronomy and mankind’s impulse for the stars. Elba is set to play two leads in the project, the Egyptian polymath Imhotep in 3000 B.C. as well as a brilliant astronomer in the near future. Based on an original idea by Tiwary and his wife, Dr. Tracy Dennis-Tiwary, Ascension was co-created by Tiwary and Ellis, with Ellis writing the script. The project is currently being shopped to British networks. Elba, who will executive produce it, will next be seen in Prometheus.
